WE DID IT.

Black Scranton Project received a major contribution from PNC Bank in the form of an 8,000 square foot facility, a donation valued at over $250,000.  Our new home, 1902 N. Main Avenue is nearing a century in age and will once again be recognized as the cornerstone of Providence Square. Black Scranton Project Center for Art & Culture will be a symbol of wealth and preservation- for the culture, history, Black Scrantonians and the Electric City. 

PNC Bank donated their former North Scranton Bank facility to the organization as it will now be transformed into Black Scranton Project Center for Art & Culture (BSPCAC). This generous gift has created space for the organization to establish roots as a landmark of culture, equity, and justice for the Scranton community.

Thanks to this generous gift from PNC Bank and a coalition of community partners. The BSPCAC will offer educational and cultural programming as well as a space to come together. It will be open to the public, but most importantly it will stand as a safe space for BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and marginalized communities.

Center for Art & Culture

The funds raised from this campaign will help with the start up cost for the Black Scranton Project  Center for Art & Culture (BSPCAC). This center will be a multi -purpose building.  Help us bless the community by reaching our goal.

The BSPCAC will provide creative and recreational space for youth, teens, and adults by offering  free counseling, educational classes, tutoring, job assistance, and so much more.

Why Do We Need a Community Center?

• Black Scranton Project seeks to provide a safe and secure environment that can lead to positive outcomes for children and youth. Our mission is to ensure that children (especially BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, low income, and marginalized youths) in Scranton have the opportunity to develop self-confidence, self-esteem, and do well in school so that they can grow to be self-sufficient and successful in society. The Center (BSPCC), will offer a variety of after-school and summer programs designed to help children build leadership skills, enhance academic performance, and learn sufficiency skills, while gaining exposure to positive role models who look like them.

• We see a real need for this, and that need is only going to grow. While there are facilities and offices with sincere staff that may offer one service or another, there is no single facility that provides the full spectrum of services, and finding any one service can be difficult especially for People of Color.

Current Support

• Community Partnerships and foundation support has been ongoing and strong. Black Scranton Project has consistently worked with local colleges and universities, grassroots organizations, charitable foundations and other local volunteers. Some of our partnerships and sponsors include: Scranton Area Foundation, Willary Foundation, Weinberg Foundation, University of Scranton, Marywood University, Lackawanna County Arts & Culture Department, Lackawanna Historical Society, Queer NEPA, and Scranton Fringe Festival Our current donors are committed to continuing their support through renewable grants, contracts, and in-kind support.

• Building on this strong current support from foundations, government funding, and volunteers, our board and key stakeholders will play a major role in expanding connections to individual donors and opening up new relationships with foundations and local business connections. A subcommittee of board members and community leaders has been formed to focus on maximizing The Center’s earned income revenue by using innovative, entrepreneurial tactics to increase this stream of income to maintain the Center.
